Awesome strike!
Why isn't Randulf using the sharp end of his axe?
Rocktopus 30th May 2021, 3:55 PM edit delete reply
Blunt end works better vs. armored enemies.

Also, he might need at least one of them alive for something
chris-tar 30th May 2021, 4:48 PM edit delete reply
Indeed concussive force would penetrate the armor, when a blade might not.
Bookeater_otaku 30th May 2021, 5:00 PM edit delete reply
Seeing the way it's holding it's stomach in the last panel, it worked superbly.
Oldarmourer 30th May 2021, 6:08 PM edit delete reply
Warhammers, maces and military picks really came into their own when plate armour appeared, they're very effective against it and still useful against chain, the pick ends or 'beaks' found on many warhammers work well against helmets or close fitting plates but they normally only penetrate a short distance and more importantly, by 'hitting and sticking' instead of glancing off they transfer 100% of the blow's energy to the target, defeating the design of most plate armour which deflects as much as withstands a strike.
That, and like an axe as opposed to a sword, most of the weight is at the end allowing for much more momentum in the strike at the expense of a little 'nimbleness'...
There's almost always a tradeoff between power and speed.

Not to mention the risk of the sharp end of the axe getting embedded in an enemy. No, the blunt end is definitely the way to go here.
charlesw81 1st Jun 2021, 10:39 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, I agree with this one. It's the same as if he'd hit the wall guard with the blade, he'd have a blade embedded in the wall. He doesn't want his blade embedded in the guard, the concussive force is more than enough to kill or completely disable this foe and if the blade had passed through, the concussive blow has the added benefit of stopping his swing so he can be ready to deliver the next blow

Great page as always. The perspective from the axe in the first panel? 'Moua'! 😗🤌🏻

Jeez Randulph is strong. He really is the tank of the party.

Not saying much when the rest of the party is "Twiggy" Colleen. :)

I love the mouse's eye view in panel one.

Where did you find that other avatar's icon, the one with the bruised sailor?

Our boy had best be "gentle" with at least some of these fellows. The base chance he will need one of them to tell him where his partner was taken is 50%, and the rules of storytelling make it much higher. Of course, there are other possibilities, but there is still a major chance he will need to "negotiate".
charlesw81 1st Jun 2021, 10:46 PM edit delete reply
Thats a good point. Thoughts are that he's using the blunt/warhammer aspect of his axe to avoid embedding it, but now I'm wondering if he's purposely trying to leave them all alive so he can bully or strong arm them into guiding him but not peeve them off so much they'd rather die with their brethren... Not that it's difficult to imagine both his blunt force trauma victims aren't either dead or dying from those blows though.

It seems that the monsters armor is based on the armor designs on the statues. Very interesting.

Ok, I just have to say this - absolutely gorgeous panel two. Placement, lines, physics extrapolation. Just, wow.

It's tricks like this, where he sprays up a sand and dust cloud to complement the effects of the potion -while- dealing an enemy a disabling blow, that really highlights the dude's a genuine veteran.
Bookeater_otaku 31st May 2021, 10:59 AM edit delete reply
Now, the place is just dusty as he'll. But what the dust does for the art is illustrate very well the motion of the characters on a dark background as well as the author careful attention to details to the environment of what he is drawing.

damn dude

sober randulf is badass as hell
melaredblu 1st Jun 2021, 1:04 AM edit delete reply
That's one way to get a tummy tuck.
Bookeater_otaku 1st Jun 2021, 11:26 AM edit delete reply
What the monster is saying in the last panel... it's 'FUCK!' isn't it? That's almost an universal response to getting a hammer in the chest and the letters were too elaborate for a 'arrrg' or a 'own.
Oldarmourer 4th Jun 2021, 11:56 PM edit delete reply
Interesting effect on the back of the monster being struck...
Almost as if it were made of sand ?
MajorDZaster 13th Jun 2021, 2:08 AM edit delete reply
The camera angle in the first panel is giving me JoJo vibes.
