And now the dungeoneer's dilemma...
Save the gold so you don't have to go back as often ?
or use it to buy better equipment so when you do go back you can stay longer and get more gold ?
Rocktopus 11th Oct 2019, 5:34 PM edit delete reply
We're gonna need to bust out the spreadsheets for this one
Lurker 11th Oct 2019, 5:44 PM edit delete reply
Minmaxing FTW!
MajorDZaster 11th Oct 2019, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
Yes, but then you also have to take into account the amount of time you spend calculating this on the spreadsheet, and how much of it you could have spent dugeoneering and have thus wasted!
Ahhh! It's too complex to stay sane!
MajorDZaster 11th Oct 2019, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
Eh, then again, no matter what, it seems the two are always walking into Marblegate in the morning and leaving in the afternoon. I feel like better gear won't actually allow them to stay in there longer.
cptn.starlight 12th Oct 2019, 3:24 PM edit delete reply
But if they are able to clear paths faster because of better gear, they can get farther in during that time...

I am getting flashbacks for the amount of grinding I did back when I played the Wizardry series (especially 5)...

Ahh, Randulf. Never change. :D

Glad to be back to the present storyline, even though I really enjoyed the backstory on Colleen. :)

I bet he actually care a great deal about her. But having lost all his friends he is scared of getting to know much about her.

Also, at least he is telling her the truth.

In fairness, he has to have heard the "I'm saving money for my village," story at least a half dozen times now.

The real dilemma will be when they find a magical item useful for adventuring and have to decide whether to sell it for a lot of money or keep it to use.
BornOnTheNinth 13th Oct 2019, 7:22 PM edit delete reply
They could use it for adventuring and sell it after the Marblegate closes.
Oldarmourer 18th Oct 2019, 5:59 PM edit delete reply
They should be saving some items for just that event, the price for now non-replaceable magic things will go up astronomically if/when the dungeon fades away.

Ok here comes the true challenge of this page:

Guess which monster/monsters they fought from the tiny stingers/quills stuck in Colleens hood and backpack.
padanew 12th Oct 2019, 3:36 PM edit delete reply
Dire porcupines during mating season.
Worstcase 13th Oct 2019, 9:57 PM edit delete reply
My guess was going more in the direction of a swarm of angry giant bees or hornets.
(Bees because those tend to lose the stingers.)
Oldarmourer 18th Oct 2019, 6:00 PM edit delete reply
The rare but dreaded Miniature Manticore.
Sturzkampf 12th Oct 2019, 7:02 PM edit delete reply
Did those two get married and we missed it?
Guest 14th Oct 2019, 5:02 PM edit delete reply
Well, they do spend a lot of time alone in the dungeon. Of course, they aren't *quite* all that alone, given the wide variety of entities in the dungeon, sentient and otherwise...

Also, it seems like Colleen is getting used to the dungeon and its dangers and toils. Her trials in chapter 5 (such as ... not to mention the times she almost died) have not made her give up her quest, and she seems almost in high spirits. Adventuring is still a dangerous business, but she seems to be doing well and taking it in strides.

That said, I do hope she will quit while ahead, unless the purpose that the Highfather has for her lies in Marblegate: . Marblegate is all kinds of (extremely) dangerous.

dwarves always gruff it's their nature plus he probably has some tragedy in his past that he deals with by drinking
Packless1 17th Oct 2019, 7:49 PM edit delete reply
...i'm afraid Colleen is a bit too optimistic...! :-(
...if the duke finds out, that the village is now rich, he will just ask for more next time...! :-(

That's the thing about politicians.
To them if you can afford to pay your taxes then you obviously aren't being taxed enough.
And if you can afford to buy little pleasantries to make your drab life a bit brighter then a 'sin tax' is in the offing.
Heaven help you if you elect the particular brand of politician who figures that if they (or whoever scerams the loudest in their 'base') don't like something then you can't have it either...

His blunt honesty might get on her nerves, but it still cracks me up.
