Well damn. I bet she'd pass that barbarian dude's tests to join his party lol. I eagerly await finding out what her deal is and seeing more of her :P. That's a pretty cool tattoo she's got, though the bits under the smoke look rather disconcertingly... tentacley. Also, 2 updates a week would be amazing, love this comic and if you can give us more without burning out or sacrificing your amazing art, I'm all for it. Thanks so much for the awesome content.

Thanks so much!

It's actually a tattoo of the sun. I have some really, old concept art of her from 2016 here with her tattoo on full display:

I agree! Some changes have been made to her design since then.

very cool. i love the concept art you linked in as well. really excellent and exciting new beginning here. hope you managed to give yourself a break for a bit. cheers!
Rocktopus 4th Oct 2019, 8:24 PM edit delete reply
Nope! No breaks! The last two weeks was spent getting caught up on pages and commission work!

I haven't taken a weekend or even a day off since 2017.

I like the highly colored tattoos on your characters! To bad most tattoos look horrible in real life.

So,from the concept art, I am guessing she is a bard. New addition to the party? I am tempted to say so since she is not in the original planning for the group you had but maybe as a temporary partner?

But she will make an interesting contrast to Colleen... Clothing wise I mean.
Rocktopus 4th Oct 2019, 7:41 PM edit delete reply
That clothing is "interesting" alright :P

A lot has changed since the original conception of this story way back in 2015, so don't assume too much by the old concept art :)

So I’ve just caught up on the whole story and I’d like to comment on your Patreon.

You need more support goal levels. You want to be up to three days a week. Have a goal of $500 or $750 per month that “guarantees” 2 a week, and another at $2500 (or whatever it takes to support yourself) that guarantees 3 posts a week. Then have a goal of $4K or $5k that gives some money to a pool for rewards for fan art or fanfic.

Also, I found you via Pirateaba and The Wandering Inn.
Donald 5th Oct 2019, 4:33 AM edit delete reply
Maybe an intermediate goal at $1500 that does a once a month “art piece” which could be chosen by Patreon only poll.
Rocktopus 5th Oct 2019, 6:14 AM edit delete reply
The problem is that everything that I offer on patreon causes me to spend less time working on pages. If I'm offering additional content three times a week to patrons, I'm shifting focus away from the comic, and thus producing less pages.

I'm not making enough money on Patreon to support myself off of just that, and so most of my work day needs to be spent doing commission work. I'm already working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week as it is, and haven't taken a single day off since 2017, just to complete both commission work AND get pages done. I'd like to offer more content, I really really would, but I can't live of 215$ a month.

I've structured this chapter to be much easier to draw than the last one, so I will be getting back to updating 2 pages a week by the end of the month regardless.

But thank you for your advice, I will take it into consideration.
Kiefler 7th Oct 2019, 12:42 AM edit delete reply
You got my intent backwards. The point of the Patreon is to drive people to this page.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even post the regular page art there, rather a link to this page, which will increase your click through rate and help with overall volume of page traffic.

The general concept is that while you are at smaller dollar amounts, you want smaller gaps to the next “threshold.” If you are only $100 away from the next tier, people are more likely to join, expecting that their donation will pay off in more content (here at the publishing site).

I will contact you via email to take this out of the general comment thread.
padanew 7th Oct 2019, 6:05 AM edit delete reply
What you may want to do is instead of using the money straight up and spending it is to take it and roll it into a trust fund. You may want to sit down with a financial planner and have the donations going into a fund that when it reaches a level where you can start earning a reasonable amount of income that then you can start weaning off day work and work on comics.

A tree-hugging hippy chick!

Well, she's cute. Got a nice butt for an elf. Hopefully we won't meet her in the dungeon, because Dungeon Rule #1: never trust anything sexy in the dungeon.
Rocktopus 6th Oct 2019, 12:57 AM edit delete reply
Glad you remember rule #1!
David Argall 7th Oct 2019, 12:49 AM edit delete reply
My first thought [well, actually my 2nd since I'm male] was that we were most likely to meet her in the dungeon, and since we have had an episode where trust was a bad idea, she might be a case where trust is a good idea. Of course, trusting her right away would be distinctly rash, but a dungeon like this needs some "trustworthy" encounters just to cause people to fall into the traps.

Trying to figure out the theme of this story arc should be fun.

It makes me wonder if we're going to be dealing with nature things outside of Marblegate this time around.

How are LGBT people treated in this world, by the way? Are they accepted or is homophobia a thing here?
Rocktopus 7th Oct 2019, 2:48 AM edit delete reply
Depends. Certain regions and cultures are more open to homosexuality than others in this world. I generally tend to model cultures in this world roughly after one or two real-world equivalents, including their philosophies on the subject of sex.

The ones modeled after traditional catholic medieval societies are more religiously conservative about sex, while other places based on historical pagan cultures are (usually) less so. Marblegate's a special place where people from all over the world come, and that includes people of different interests, beliefs, and values.

I don't want to say too much about it, but it will be remarked on in more detail in the future.
Guest 7th Oct 2019, 4:46 AM edit delete reply
Some non-Abrahamic cultures/religions were very strict on this topic, at least from what I can gather. As I recall, the concept of "nid" in certain Viking Scandinavian periods is about a man accusing another man of being homosexual, which usually resulted in strife and fight between the two, possibly with one party dying. I recall that there was one story of someone who was a strong fighter in Norway accusing others who were less great of fighting of being homosexuals in order to dare them into a fight, kill them and win, and get their wealth, whether the accusation had any truth to it or not. He ended up losing a fight and his life after some events in the story. Possibly to prevent such tactics and lots of strife, "nid", accusing others, was outlawed.

The Viking cultures were not necessarily against slightly effeminate roles (ignoring the sexual parts), similar to how monks are typically not seen as very masculine. Iceland had male witches as I recall, and Thor (in some portrayels shown with red hair) dressed as a woman as part of a tactic to kill the Jotun that had abducted the Aesir Idun and rescue her. But this tended to involve cunning, wisdom and the like, not sex.

Another part I recall is that Caesar wrote about (non-Christian) Germanic tribes having men and women marrying relatively late, such as by the age of 18 for both of them, which was unusual compared to other parts of the world, at least outside Europe. Chasteness in young men was supposedly also seen as a great virtue. This is different from contemporary Judaism and later Islam, which had women marrying at a much younger age. The Roman republic/empire had marriage laws forbidding marriage under the age of 12 for both parties.
