Here are some of my conclusions about being born a poor person. 1) God created a hierarchy so that there could be variety, otherwise, everyone would be the same, with the same abilities etc, and that would lead to stagnation? Variety creates action and motion, growth and innovation. Variety gives meaning to life. So maybe if everyone were rich, it would be no fun? ...LOL... 2) A God would not be a God without mortals. Again being a God would be meaningless if everyone were a God? So God had to create a weaker version of himself in order to give his own existence meaning?
CONCLUSION: Perhaps rich and poor people exist in order to create a world with a hierarchy and variety so that there is not stagnation, and to give life a purpose which is to advance upwards in the hierarchy?
Or, maybe I just came up with that crap to make myself feel better about being poor, and in reality being wealthy is absolutely the best there is, wonderful, and totally fulfilling! Ha Ha! Life sucks when you are poor! Damn it!

Well, one advantage of being poor is that there tends to be fewer expensive professional assassins hired to murder you. And there tends to be fewer people plotting your individual death specifically. And unless things are screwy, you will also not be the one that is first and foremost responsible for the security and safety of your people and nation. But yes, being rich is presumably overall still great or awesome in most cases, and the good part of that is that if you can set up, maintain and develop a good, robust and resilient system, you can both attract very capable, good and benign cunningly people to become (very) rich and make those very same people protect your people and nation. Of course, if you instead get evil, useless and thieving people that does not protect anything and just runs at the first sign of trouble instead as the rich ones, then it is really screwy. That said, in a good system, it must be ensured that the (non-evil) poor and not-quite-poor in practice have good conditions for thriving and the like, since the nation, people and system builds and consists of those very people and are the source of it all.

Also, I read recently that the Swedish army once walked several miles on frozen seas as part of a surprise invasion of a long-term rival in an especially harsh and cold winter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_Across_the_Belts , which is amazing if you think about it.

Wealth brings strife. A poor man living a simple, quiet life in peace is happier than a rich man who has an over-complicated, stress-filled life with enemies at every turn and money-spending parasites attaching themselves onto ever orifice.

Being so poor you're desperate is horrible, but being moderately poor and at peace certainly isn't the worst way to live.

OK. Well until I have been a millionaire, I will have to respectfully disagree with you.

Well God also gives babies AIDS and caused leukemia so I wouldn't be too quick to assume any potential Gods out there want the best for any of us.

Sometimes it's tough to face the truth, let alone burden your kids with it.

Well said, Blotto, and that's certainly something people should reflect on when they try to bombard children with ther one-sided opinions, political or otherwise. Children should be given a chance to grow up *as children* before slinging them into the world. You shouldn't shelter them entirely, but you should shoulder the burdens as best you can and give them hope, because sometimes they'll surprise you with their insight and resilience. Colleen is a great example. :)

Must be awful to be a father and have to tell your kids you can't provide for them

Hopefully they will pull through this and survive it. Colleen is showing concern for her town and family if I am not wrong that is her motivation for dungeon crawling.

Ser Patrick is a good man. Maybe he'll take care of that Duke problem for them.
BornOnTheNinth 25th May 2019, 1:27 AM edit delete reply
I don't think that would go over well for him. If he assassinated Duke Frankfurt then it's possible the King would hypocritically execute him for "treachery". Or the King might reward him for this help by promoting him to Duke Patrick (in which case the estates will have a just ruler ... for a few generations).

A truly chivalrous knight would overthrow the unjust Duke to end an unnecessary war and protect the poor, even if it meant betraying his liege lord and his own execution.

Of course, it could be Sir Paddy who has put the idea of excessive taxes into the Duke's head, then he can become the friend of the common people ready to lead a peasants' revolt and grab power. Or maybe I've read too much Abercrombie.

I enjoyed the new page as always! As bleak as their situation is, I do find it amusing that it seems Colleen will end up dungeoneering primarily for tax purposes.

The order of panels on the bottom half is a little confusing; it's unclear at first that it's intended to be read in a vertical order instead of horizontal. It could use some way to better separate the left and right sides, or maybe arrows or something to make the order clearer.

Thanks! Yes, the bottom half is meant to be read vertically. I'll look into it some time to see if I can make that more clear.

I'm guessing Colleen's parents sent her to the clergy to protect her, to get her out of the village before the Duke snaps and sacks it.

Just thought I would share, the way the panel is ordered didn't read quite right for me, had to do a double back to figure out it's different. Used to reading left to right and down, so the switch was a bit confusing for a bit

Thanks for the feedback. I made some adjustments to hopefully make it clearer, however there's not much more I can do unless I redraw the page.

Appreciate the feedback! I'll take it into consideration for future pages.
